The City Council held its regular monthly meeting. It adopted a resolution announcing its disagreement with HB 1523, a recently adopted state law that protects religious liberty by prohibiting government discrimination against people of faith who disagree with same sex marriage.

The council heard a presentation by award winning student Solomon Brown, who is representing Mississippi in the American Legion oratorical scholarship program. He is the son of Curressia and Troy Brown.

The council mourned the death of 23 year old firefighter Tyree Jernigan who was shot and killed in the past weekend.
