The Greenwood City Council is the legislative body that governs the city of Greenwood. The executive power is held by a Mayor who is elected by the people every four years, along with the seven council members. The City Council generally meets twice each month at the City Hall.

The Council approved appointments to various boards. A discussion of the new "Crime Stoppers" program took place. The mayor and others discussed the pros and cons of the tobacco tax/grocery sales tax legislation recently passed, but vetoed by the Governor. The Council went into executive session to discuss the recent burglary and theft of weapons from the police station armory.
