The Greenwood City Council is the legislative body that governs the city of Greenwood. The executive power is held by a Mayor who is elected by the people every four years, along with the seven council members. The City Council generally meets twice each month at the City Hall.

The Council held its monthly dilapidated housing hearing. Jerry Adams, hospital administrator, gave the Council an update on the Greenwood Leflore Hospital. Several citizens presented a complaint about a homeless shelter proposed for their neighborhood in Ward 6. A dispute erupted regarding the length of the lease for the Recreation Center/Armory, with Council member Ronnie Stevenson asking why it had to be five years in duration. The Council went into Executive Session to discuss an industrial prospect and the investigation of the missing police weapons.
