The Greenwood City Council is the legislative body that governs the city of Greenwood. The executive power is held by a Mayor who is elected by the people every four years, along with the seven council members. The City Council generally meets twice each month at the City Hall.

The Council approved several agreements between the city and the C & G Railroad related to the closing of the tracks and conveyance of property to the city. The Council took up the housing downpayment assistance grant proposal. The Council granted an exception for a day-care center on West Claiborne Street and to approve residency occupancy of a lot in the 300 block of Cotton Street. Several advertisements for bids for garbage and refuse collection equipment were approved. The Council went into executive session to discuss an industrial prospect and the problems in the city police department.
