The Greenwood City Council is the legislative body that governs the city of Greenwood. The executive power is held by a Mayor who is elected by the people every four years, along with the seven council members. The City Council generally meets twice each month at the City Hall.

The Council heard a request for funding from Pann Powers of Cottonlandia Museum. Tom Tollison presented a change order for the Wastewater Treatment grant. The Council took up two dilapidated housing matters. The council approved a new 10 year cable franchise agreement with Time-Warner Communications which imposes a 5% franchise fee on all cable bills. The franchise fee, which was 2%, is similar to a sales tax that is added to the customer's total cable bill and paid to the city of Greenwood.
