The Greenwood City Council is the legislative body that governs the city of Greenwood. The executive power is held by a Mayor who is elected by the people every four years, along with the seven council members. The City Council generally meets twice each month at the City Hall.

The Council met to adopt the budget for the fiscal year beginning October 1, 2008, and the accompanying resolutions authorizing the property tax levies and instructing the county tax collector to collect the same on behalf of the city. In addition, the Council approved renewal of the city's health insurance plan.
