The Greenwood City Council is the legislative body that governs the city of Greenwood. The executive power is held by a Mayor who is elected by the people every four years, along with the seven council members. The City Council generally meets twice each month at the City Hall.

The Council took up some dilapidated property matters. It heard from the Police Chief and Lt. Johnson regarding various grant issues and the crime stoppers program. The Council heard the matter of Mr. Vernon Ricks' hanger lease and the desire of the Airport Board to remove him to accommodate the demands of the GECAS aircraft salvage operation. The Council voted unanimously to authorize the Airport Board to move Mr. Ricks to a new location, which both Councilmember John Lee and Mr. Ricks' attorney stated was inappropriate. The Council voted to change over its drug testing program from the hospital to EMI Staffing.
