The Council handled some dilapidated property matters, and heard from several citizens and salesmen. The Council held a very contentious discussion regarding the appointment of Floyd Melton III as city attorney. The five black members of the council opposed taking up the matter while the litigation is on-going. After much debate, the Mayor withdrew her nomination, after receiving assurances from four members that they would vote to confirm Mr. Melton as soon as the city attorney litigation is concluded.
