The Greenwood City Council is the legislative body that governs the city of Greenwood. The executive power is held by a Mayor who is elected by the people every four years, along with the seven council members. The City Council generally meets twice each month at the City Hall.

The Council met with representatives of the Board of Supervisors to discuss renewal of an inter-local agreement that would permit the county to perform certain work on city property when it would be beneficial to the taxpayers. The Council voted to instruct its attorney to work out the details of the agreement with the county attorney.
