The Greenwood City Council is the legislative body that governs the city of Greenwood. The executive power is held by a Mayor who is elected by the people every four years, along with the seven council members. The City Council generally meets twice each month at the City Hall.

The Council heard a presentation from Shelley Johnstone regarding the 30-year plan. Several persons spoke regarding the request to approve a church location for the Nation of Islam. The regular dilapidated housing hearing was held. The Council approved the appointment of Marcus Banks as the new Fire Chief. The resolution to grant a special use exemption for the Nation of Islam to have a religious meeting place was approved, with Lisa Cookston and Johnny Jennings voting against the resolution.
