The Board held a budget hearing for the upcoming $26.4 million budget. Mr. Collins discussed how the county roads are not being kept up due to lack of funds. No economic growth means no additional tax revenue. He also proposed that the damage to the roads is being done by gravel trucks not following approved routes. The Board also approved purchase of its insurance. Mr. Wolfe announced he will vote against the budget because it contains a tax increase for the county public schools. The Board agreed to go forward with the gas pipeline project for the peanut processing facility in the industrial park. The Board also discussed the cost of running the county jail and whether cities are paying their fair share for the housing of their inmates at the facility.
