The Greenwood City Council is the legislative body that governs the city of Greenwood. The executive power is held by a Mayor who is elected by the people every four years, along with the seven council members. The City Council generally meets twice each month at the City Hall.

The Council received a gift from the Jackson State University's Hamer Institute of color brochures detailing civil rights tourism stops in Greenwood. Dr. Leslie McLemore presented the brochures to the council. Various reappointments to boards were approved. The Council agreed to allow a house of worship at 300 Carrollton Avenue. The council approved a contract for work on the voting machines that will be used in the upcoming city elections.
