The Greenwood City Council is the legislative body that governs the city of Greenwood. The executive power is held by a Mayor who is elected by the people every four years, along with the seven council members. The City Council generally meets twice each month at the City Hall.

The City Council held its monthly meeting on dilapidated properties. GCVB and Main Street updated the Council on upcoming events. The Council approved the 2013-2014 fiscal year budget that goes into effect October 1st. The Council approved the GCVB budget. The Council approved retiring police chief Henry Purnell to purchase his city issued sidearm. The city's health insurance plan, which is partially self-funded, was reapproved for another year.
