The Greenwood City Council is the legislative body that governs the city of Greenwood. The executive power is held by a Mayor who is elected by the people every four years, along with the seven council members. The City Council generally meets twice each month at the City Hall.

The Council heard competing proposals for a downtown "Entertainment District" from Brantley Snipes and Jalani Barr. The new CVBD director Tonja Smith was introduced. Tyrone Rule addressed the council at length about recent flooding of his home on Wllow Street during a rainstorm. The Council also heard from residents about alleged police misconduct incidents. The Council voted to pay the annual Stars and Stripes funds to the Chamber of Commerce.
