The Greenwood City Council is the legislative body that governs the city of Greenwood. The executive power is held by a Mayor who is elected by the people every four years, along with the seven council members. The City Council generally meets twice each month at the City Hall.

The council held its regular monthly hearing on dilapidated properties. Discussion of a purchase by MDOC of the old community work center took place. Cherry Street's name was changed to Lusia Harris Stewart Street. An emergency was declared for the Ione Street Treatment plant. An "urban renewal project" was approved. Steps were taken to implement a "tax increment financing bond" for Three Rivers Development Project at the old Ramada Inn location. Milwaukee Tools was granted two additional 10 year property tax exemptions.
