Judge Slaps Down Mayor McAdams Bid to Toss Election Contest

Thursday, July 30, 2015, 1:15 pm News Flash Archive

In an order filed yesterday, Judge Henry Lackey once again rejected Mayor Carolyn McAdams' attempt to throw out the election contest filed by Sheriel Perkins.

Judge Lackey also ordered McAdams to pay Perkins' costs and legal fees expended in opposing the failed motions for summary judgment filed by McAdams' lawyers from Butler-Snow.

The Court's order may be viewed here: Opinion and Order on Defendant's Motion

Judge Lackey had previously overruled McAdams' attempt to have the election contest dismissed before going to trial. Our coverage of that ruling may be viewed here: Mayor McAdams loses fight to toss election contest

McAdams' lawyers then filed a motion for reconsideration and clarification, and a hearing was held on that matter on July 17. It may be seen here: Perkins v. McAdams Election Contest Hearing

But yesterday, Judge Lackey once again rejected McAdams' request, ruling that sufficient claims were raised by Perkins that, if proven at trial, could result in the overturning of the election.

So the election contest between Sheriel Perkins and Carolyn McAdams will go to a full trial, but as of yet no date has been set.
