With great regret, we inform you that The Taxpayers Channel has shut down.
Since 1992, TTC has attended and covered over 5000 public meetings. All these were filmed and then made available to the general public without charge.
In the first decade, TTC was supported by sponsors and generous donors.
But since 2005, all the costs of operation have been paid for by me out of my own pocket.
Since that time, we have received just a little under $2000 in support from the public.
However, it would cost around $30,000 to operate the channel through 2025.
Most of the costs involve paying the video journalists to attend and film the meetings. But there are also substantial costs of purchasing new equipment, obtaining supplies, and paying for internet services.
In the end, it was a lack of funds to cover these costs that forced us to close down the channel.
I wish to thank Toy Longstreet and Christopher Williams, who have been faithful video reporters for us over the past decade.
Also, I wish to acknowledge gratefulness for Johnny Jennings' faithful work early on in the 1990s, filming many meetings for free for us. We wouldn't have ever gotten off the ground if it hadn't been for Johnny's hard work.
We will miss all of our viewers, and we will miss being able to perform this public service for our community. We are so glad that we were given 32 years to carry on.
Gratefully,
John Pittman Hey
