The Greenwood City Council is the legislative body that governs the city of Greenwood. The executive power is held by a Mayor who is elected by the people every four years, along with the seven council members. The City Council generally meets twice each month at the City Hall.

The Council held its monthly hearing on dilapidated properties. The Council rejected the Mayor's nominee to the Greenwood Public School Board, Mrs. Samantha Milton. Mr. Jennings and Mrs. Cookston voted for the nomination, Mr. Stevenson abstained, and Messrs. Jordan, Cannon, Palmer, and McCoy voted against the nomination.
