The Greenwood City Council is the legislative body that governs the city of Greenwood. The executive power is held by a Mayor who is elected by the people every four years, along with the seven council members. The City Council generally meets twice each month at the City Hall.

The Council held a hearing and later approved the Tax Increment Financing Plan for the Landing Retail Project. Several persons addressed the council on the public agenda. The Council considered a contribution to the Delta Streets Ministry. The Council approved various sales or transfers of used police department equipment to surrounding towns. The Council heard from Police Chief Pernell who announced his retirement next month. The Council approved a contract to sell the Russell Building back to Lee Abraham's company at a $10,000 loss, and then to repurchase the empty lot back from him for $90,000 after he demolishes the building.
