The Greenwood City Council is the legislative body that governs the city of Greenwood. The executive power is held by a Mayor who is elected by the people every four years, along with the seven council members. The City Council generally meets twice each month at the City Hall.

The Council heard presentations from Brantley Snipes about the "tax abatement" plan for refurbishing downtown properties; from Dale Persons about his work on Voter ID; and from Cheryl Taylor about the Museum of the Mississippi Delta's annual appropriation. Several matters relating to sewer rehab work and pumping stations were approved.
