The Greenwood City Council is the legislative body that governs the city of Greenwood. The executive power is held by a Mayor who is elected by the people every four years, along with the seven council members. The City Council generally meets twice each month at the City Hall.

The City Council rejected a call from a local concerned parent Roxanne Hall to reconsider granting $3,000 to Parents for Public Schools. Mrs. Hall expressed concern for the organization's support for Common Core. The council voted to grant the money anyway.
Several other charitable contributions were also awarded by the council.
Deirdre Mayes was appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Greenwood Public Schools to fill the unexpired term of Kathy Whicker who recently resigned.
The Council voted to donate property in the Industrial Park for the construction of an animal humane shelter.
