The Hospital Board of Commissioners met for its regular monthly meeting.
The Board voted to fire Healthcare Experience Foundation (HXF), consultants that the Board hired last January to the tune of $700,000.
Board members Sammy Foster, Emma Bell, and Freddie White-Johnson all had voted to hire the consultants against the advice of their fellow board members Brian Waldrop and Larry Griggs, who were not told of the hiring until just before the January meeting. At the time, Foster claimed "I have confidence in this group. They have the track record."
It later turned out that HXF had only been in existence for 7 months.
The Board fired HXF after Interim CEO Subho Basu reported that some of HXF's claims of progress were "not convincing."
The Hospital will be required to continue payments to HXF for three additional months. In addition, there was some talk that perhaps the Board might re-hire HXF for a smaller project and less money.
The Board went into executive session, excluding the press and the public for 59 minutes.
