Affidavit filed against Larry "Kite" Johnson

Thursday, March 12, 2015, 12:00 am News Flash Archive

WMC TV out of Memphis reported last evening that the parents of a middle school special needs student have filed an affidavit against Larry "Kite" Johnson, claiming he beat their son "black and blue" at Quitman County Middle School.

Kite Johnson is a former Leflore County Supervisor and is currently a candidate to regain his District 5 office. He is running against incumbent Robert Collins and K. K. Henderson Kent.

The WMC video purports to show moderate bruising on the legs of the child. The WMC news report briefly displayed a picture of Mr. Johnson taken from his public Facebook account. On that account, Johnson states that he is an administrative assistant at the school.

Per state law, as a public school teacher, Mr. Johnson cannot be arrested until he has been afforded a court hearing to find whether there is probable cause to support the allegation lodged against him.

Here's hoping that this all turns out to be unsubstantiated.
