Monster Greenwood Zoning/Development Ordinance set for adoption

Monday, March 16, 2015, 12:00 am News Flash Archive

The City Council is set to finally adopt a new monster-sized Zoning and Development Ordinance to govern all use of property in Greenwood at tomorrow's meeting.

The ordinance was placed on the agenda that was released Friday, and therefore no citizens will be permitted to address concerns about the ordinance at the meeting before the vote takes place.

The ordinance has been under development for some time, with various presentations at council meetings and in 3 public gatherings.

Some people who have reviewed the ordinance, including engineers and contractors, have expressed serious concerns that it may well shut down any future commercial development in the city.

The Ordinance, which runs over 100 pages in length, contains many new restrictions as to the use of property and a host of expensive design requirements relating to new construction or expansion of old buildings.

For example, in certain areas, the new ordinance will require parking lots to include one tree for every ten parking spaces.

The entire ordinance may be found here: Proposed Zoning Ordinance
