Judge's Recusal Order from Election Contest

Friday, January 9, 2015, 12:00 am News Flash Archive

Judge Samac Richardson's order recusing himself from hearing the Perkins v. McAdams Mayoral election contest was filed late yesterday with the Leflore County Circuit Clerk and with the Supreme Court.

The order may be seen here: Order of Recusal

In the order, Richardson states that the Perkins motion requesting recusal "grossly mis characterized [sic] the statements made by the court" during a telephonic hearing held last December 10th on McAdams' motions to quash Perkins' subpoenas of various documents.

Nevertheless, the Judge concluded that he would recuse himself to prevent the dispute from becoming a "red herring issue being brought forth on appeal and cloud[ing] issues of substance should the Plaintiff [Perkins] not succeed in the trial court."

As of 11:30 today, no word has come down whether the trial will be held Monday morning. As yet, no new judge has been assigned by the Supreme Court to hear the case.
