A few minutes ago, the Board of the Greenwood Leflore Hospital voted not to renew Jerry Adams' contract as Administrator. The Board appointed an interim administrator until a permanent replacement is selected.
The vote, which took place in a closed meeting from which the public and press were excluded, fell along racial lines, the two white members (Brian Waldrop and Alex Malouf) voting to renew the Adams contract, and the three black members (Gladys Flaggs, Sammy Foster, and Walter Parker) voting against renewal.
One physician, Dr. James Robbins, was permitted to attend as an observer for the medical staff. When he asked the members the reasons for their vote against Mr. Adams, they refused to provide any.
The Hospital Board members are appointed by the City Council and the Board of Supervisors.
