Hospital appeals Dulin discrimination judgment

Wednesday, December 12, 2012, 4:29 pm News Flash Archive

On December 5th, the Greenwood Leflore Hospital filed its "notice of appeal" of the judgment against it rendered by the Federal Court for racial discrimination against George Dulin.

The Court has awarded Mr. Dulin $82,000 in damages after a jury found that the hospital board had discriminated against Mr. Dulin in firing him in part because he is white. The judge recently rejected all the Hospital's motions for a new trial, or to set aside or remit the judgment.

In addition, Mr. Dulin's attorneys, led by crack civil rights lawyer Jim Waide of Tupelo, filed their motion to make the Hospital pay $95,000 in legal costs and fees. Under federal law, Mr. Dulin is entitled to be compensated for the costs he incurred in fighting for his civil rights against the Hospital.
