Today, District 3 Supervisor Preston Ratliff filed an election contest with the Leflore County Democrat Executive Committee (LCDEC). Late this afternoon, the Committee was seeking to serve Anjuan Brown with a copy of the contest.
In the August 2nd primary, Mr. Brown was certified the winner of the Democrat primary by over 90 votes, after he pulled ahead of Mr. Ratliff due to Brown's heavy advantage in the absentee balloting.
Ratliff seeks to overturn Brown's certification and have the Committee name him the true nominee.
The LCDEC must serve the parties, schedule a hearing, and rule whether the challenge is valid. The losing party can then appeal to the Circuit Court for final resolution of the challenge.
The Democrat nominee faces an independent opponent in the November general election.
Today was the 20th and final day in which a challenge could be filed.
