Supervisor District 4 Election Contest Begins

Monday, February 24, 2020, 10:33 pm News Flash Archive

At the Leflore County courthouse this morning, trial began in the contest over the November 2019 election for Supervisor District 4. Incumbent Wayne Self was defeated by Eric Mitchell by a 16 vote margin.

Wayne Self contested the election of his opponent, Eric Mitchell, to the Supervisor District 4 position.

Special Judge Jeff Weill presided over the election contest. Both parties waived the right to a trial by jury, so Judge Weill will make the decision.

Wayne Self is represented by Jackson attorney Margarette Meeks. Eric Mitchell is represented by Greenville attorney Willie Griffin.

A good part of the first day was spent with the lawyers going through ballot boxes and marking items as exhibits to speed the proceedings.

The trial will continue Tuesday morning.
