Arby's planning to come to Greenwood

The national restaurant company Arby's, known for its roast beef sandwiches, is planning to come to Greenwood in the near future.

Arby's has filed a petition to appear before the Greenwood Planning Commission on June 23rd to request a variance in the setback requirement for the property they are planning to use. Apparently, Arby's would like to build their restaurant more than the maximum allowed 50 feet from West Park Avenue, in a manner similar to Wendy's just down the street. The legal notice was published this morning in the Greenwood Commonwealth.

According to the Arby's national website, the restaurant chain currently has 28 locations in Mississippi, and 3,406 locations nation-wide.

The property under consideration is the large vacant lot on the north side of the street between Citizens Bank and the former Ramada Inn. Other developers are planning to demolish the old Ramada Inn and build several eateries there in the near future.

The property under consideration by Arby's is presently owned by H & L Properties, a company that Jimmy Henderson founded decades ago, which also owns both shopping centers on Park Avenue as well as numerous other commercial properties. Mr. Henderson developed the residential neighborhood along Medallion Drive in the late 1950s through the 1970s.
