Thomas Perry III, the 20 year old suspect in the murder of his 6 year old brother Orlando Pitmon, was found incompetent to stand trial by Circuit Court Judge Joseph Loper this morning.

Perry is charged with the July 9, 2022 homicide of his little brother, as well as arson and animal cruelty.
Perry allegedly killed his brother with a knife, and then set fire to his mother's apartment in Vaiden where the killing took place. Pitmon's body was found hidden in a closet in the apartment, dead from multiple stab wounds. A family pet was also burnt to death in the flames.
According to a press release today by the Carroll County Sheriff's Department:
Though testimony was offered by a Carroll County Sheriff's Office investigator and others, ultimately the 50-page mental competency evaluation was enough for the judge to declare Perry incompetent to stand trial and therefore committed to a mental institution until such time if and when his sanity is restored.
Sheriff Clint Walker said:
Although this is certainly not the outcome that we had hoped for, it is how our legal system works. I respect the Judge and those tasked with following the letter of the law in emotional and high-profile cases such as this one. I continue to pray for the family and all of those affected by this horrible tragedy.
