The polling places are open in all precincts in Leflore County until 7 pm this evening for a court-ordered special election.
On the ballot county-wide is the race for Chancery Clerk between incumbent Johnny Gary Jr. and challenger Debra Hibbler.
In Supervisor District 4, voters will also be asked to vote for incumbent Eric Mitchell or challenger and former supervisor Wayne Self. District 4 is made up of the North and South Itta Bena precincts, along with the Rising Sun and Southwest Greenwood precincts.
All registered voters in Leflore County are urged to go to the polls and cast their ballots before 7 pm tonight.
The special election was ordered by Special Judge Jess Dickinson after he threw out the previous election for Chancery Clerk and District 4 Supervisor, because of absentee ballot fraud and numerous other election law violations that took place in the August 2023 Democratic primary.

In early March, both Gary and later Mitchell sued in court to stop the special election, but the Mississippi Supreme Court ordered it to be held today. Because there are only one or two races on today's special election ballot, voters will be able to vote very quickly. So far, the turnout is much lighter than in normal elections, as would be expected.
The results should be available this evening, unless the races are close, in which case the affidavit ballots could make a difference when they are counted starting tomorrow.
