All morning long, rumors have been circulating that The Crystal Grill, a premier restaurant in Greenwood, Mississippi, has abruptly closed for good.
The restaurant had been closed since July 1 for summer vacation, and was set to reopen on July 11.
As of 2 pm this afternoon, the sign on the restaurant's doors still said it would reopen July 11.
But at 5:41 this afternoon, Johnny and Beverly Ballas, the owners of the restaurant, confirmed that The Crystal Grill is closed for good. They posted the following on Facebook:
To all of our loyal customers,
With careful thought and a heavy heart, we are announcing that our family restaurant, The Crystal Grill, is closing. After many years, we have made this hard decision to close our doors effective immediately.
We are very grateful to our loyal employees throughout the years. Our success couldn't have happened without your hard work.
Most of all, we are thankful to our customers in Greenwood and beyond. We enjoyed being a part of your lives as you gathered and celebrated throughout the years. Your belief in us has played a huge part in the success of the restaurant.
Many thanks,
Johnny and Beverly Ballas
The closure of the restaurant, which drew many tourists to Greenwood, and is a favorite of thousands of our citizens, will be a huge setback for our community.
We convey to the Ballas family our heartfelt thanks for so many decades of delightful food and enjoyment, and send them best wishes for the future.
