Earlier today, an inmate count revealed that one inmate was missing from the Carroll County Regional Correctional Facility (CCRCF). A kitchen employee was also missing.
Investigation revealed that the kitchen worker had transported the inmate away in her personal vehicle.
The jail went into lockdown, and searches were begun by local, state and federal authorities.
Both missing persons were discovered in Lafayette County, and chase was given, with the escape vehicle ultimately wrecking. Both individuals were taken into custody at that time.
The escaped inmate was identified as Ryan Burks, 39, who was 18 years into serving his 30-year prison sentence for sexual battery and burglary. He has been booked into the Lafayette County jail.

The female employee was also taken into custody and transported to the local hospital for treatment of her injuries.
According to Carroll County Sheriff Clint Walker, felony charges will be forthcoming. He specifically credited the Lafayette County Sheriff's Office, Oxford Police Department, US Marshal Service, and MS Department of Corrections for assistance in the capture of the escapee.
