Greenwood City Council

The Greenwood City Council is the legislative body that governs the city of Greenwood. The executive power is held by a Mayor who is elected by the people every four years, along with the seven council members. The City Council generally meets twice each month at the City Hall.

The Council heard a presentation from Shelley Johnstone on proposed regulations to strictly regulate all signs in the city. Cale Ainsworth, John Malouf, and John Pittman Hey spoke against the proposed regulations. The Council and Mayor stated that a committee would be formed to draft a suitable set of regulations. Police Chief Henry Purnell, Fire Chief Larry Griggs, and public works director Benny Herring were reappointed to their positions. Several matters relating to Airport Board business were approved. The Council voted to lease the Fire Station polling location on Claiborne to Byron Ellen Shaw for use as an antique store.
