Greenwood City Council

The Greenwood City Council is the legislative body that governs the city of Greenwood. The executive power is held by a Mayor who is elected by the people every four years, along with the seven council members. The City Council generally meets twice each month at the City Hall.

The Council held its regular hearing on dilapidated properties. The Utility Commission board members declined to appear before the Council. Ward 6 member David Jordan moved that a committee be appointed to investigate the issues recently raised about former Commission member Fred Clark's special treatment regarding late payments, but the Council did not agree to it. The Council heard details on the 24 inch sewer force main problems. The Council voted to donate $7,500 to the Chamber of Commerce for the band festival and upkeep of the Christmas decorations. Lonnie Magee was appointed to the Park Commission. Hemphill Construction was hired to replace the 24 inch force main Yazoo River crossing.
