Greenwood City Council

The Greenwood City Council is the legislative body that governs the city of Greenwood. The executive power is held by a Mayor who is elected by the people every four years, along with the seven council members. The City Council generally meets twice each month at the City Hall.

The Council heard a presentation by Mike Slaughter about proceeding with a study on annexation. A heated exchange took place between Senator David Jordan and Council members Johnny Jennings and Lisa Cookston.

John Pittman Hey addressed the council about police misconduct in the arrest of Jelani Barr. He called for the prosecution of Officer Randy Powell for falsely arresting Barr and filing false charges against him. Video which Barr took showed Barr not interfering with the police and obeying all commands issued to him.

Brantley Snipes spoke for Main Street about the Q on the Yazoo event.

Salary increases were approved for two new department heads.
