Greenwood City Council

The Greenwood City Council is the legislative body that governs the city of Greenwood. The executive power is held by a Mayor who is elected by the people every four years, along with the seven council members. The City Council generally meets twice each month at the City Hall.

Steven Solomon, with the CN railroad police service, made a presentation regarding railroad crossing accidents.

City attorney Don Brock Jr. discussed progress on renaming Cherry St to to Lusia Harris Stewart Street.

After an executive session, the council voted to go forward with the purchase for $3 million of the Birdsong property in the industrial park in order to lease it to Saylor Wheel for use as a manufacturing facility. Saylor Wheel is represented by Floyd Melton III. The city will finance the purchase with revenue bonds, in which the lease payments paid to the city are pledged to the repayment of the bonds. According to its formation papers, Saylor Wheel is to be engaged in "rolled steel shape manufacturing."
