Chancery Clerk Johnny Gary presented minutes from August and September 2023 for approval, but the supervisors voted to table these items.

The board voted to authorize the payment of $187,156.36 to Planters Bank in accrued interest on the $10 million hospital loan. So far, the hospital has drawn down $7.6 million, leaving $2.4 million available for borrowing. The interest rate being charged is 6.5%.

Interim County Administrator Leroy Ware led a discussion on the cost of several repair and maintenance matters which will total almost $3 million.

Mr. Ware also described how the courthouse has been struck by lightning several times recently, and damaged many pieces of equipment, including computers and the phone system. Apparently, the lightning is coming into the building from a tower that the city of Greenwood has recently installed on the courthouse. The Greenwood equipment is somehow tied into the courthouse network, causing the damage.

A property tax abatement was discussed for a downtown business.

A resolution was adopted honoring the memory of Bessie Ola "Lady Blue" Johnson who passed away recently.

The sheriff requested to hire four new deputies, and to purchase some equipment for his office.

The board went into executive session to hear a personnel matter, but no action was taken.
