Greenwood City Council

The Greenwood City Council is the legislative body that governs the city of Greenwood. The executive power is held by a Mayor who is elected by the people every four years, along with the seven council members. The City Council generally meets twice each month at the City Hall.

The council held its regular hearing on dilapidated properties. The council voted to demolish a portion of the old Midway Hotel. After the meeting, it was discovered that the council would have to re-do the resolution, since Larry "Blue" Neal, one of the owners of parts of the building which would be impacted, had not yet been served notice of the hearing.

The Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency make a presentation to the council.

A resolution was adopted authorizing the issuance of Taxable Tax Increment Limited Obligation Bonds of up to $430,000 for the Landing Retail Phase II Infrastructure Project.

The council awarded the bid for the 2023 Street Improvements Project to Falcon Contracting Company.

The council voted to make a donation of $5000 to MVSU for the J. H. White Foundation Awards Gala.

The council had on its study agenda an ordinance to regulate the cleaning of Grease Interceptors, and the transport of grease waste. These items are usually found at restaurants and commercial kitchens.
