URGENT: Leflore County Board of Supervisors denies Greenwood Leflore Hospital's request for $1 million draw for September payroll

Wednesday, September 13, 2023, 7:04 pm News Flash Archive

At this afternoon's special meeting, the Leflore County Board of Supervisors rejected a request by Greenwood Leflore Hospital (GLH) for the September draw of $1 million to cover hospital payroll for this month.

Sam Abraham made the motion to approve the draw from the $10 million loan that the Board obtained to help GLH continue operations until it hears from CMS whether its critical access designation will be approved.

Anjuan Brown seconded his motion.

Abraham and Brown voted for the motion, while Reginald Moore, Robert Collins, and Eric Mitchell voted against it, so the motion failed.

Hospital administrators have made it clear that, without critical access approval, the hospital will be closed, and without access to the $10 million loan, the hospital will not be able to stay open long enough to find out.

So far, the hospital has drawn down $4.36 million of the $10 million available.

This is a breaking story, and more details should emerge very quickly.

According to state law, the hospital must provide a 60 day notice if it intends to cease operations.

The video of this afternoon's Board of Supervisors meeting will be posted on The Taxpayers Channel later this evening. At that time, it can be seen here: Leflore County Board of Supervisors Meeting, September 13, 2023
